What is Durga Puja Saptami ?
Durga Puja Saptami is the 1st day of Durga Puja celebration. Durga Puja Saptami is celebrated on 7th Day of Navratri. The secong day of Durga Puja celebration is Durga Puja Ashtami. Durga Puja Saptami is one of the very auspicious day of Durga Puja and people celebrate it with very much enthusiasm.
Significance of Durga Saptami
- On 7th day of Durga Puja i.e Durga Saptami , 7th form of Goddess Durga which is Ma Kaalratri is worshipped. This day is dedicated to Goddess Shakti which removes all obstacle and evil forces from our lives thats why Ma Kaalratri also Goddess Shakti is celebrated.
- Durga puja Saptami is celebrated on 7th day of navratri and 1st day of Durga Puja festivities. On this day Maha Saptmi is celebrated. On Saptami a ritual called Kola Bou or Nabapatrika is celebrated. On this day banana tree plays a very auspicious and sacred role. Banana tree is worshipped on Maha Saptami. In the early morning a banana tree is kept and ganga jal which is a holy water is kept. Banana tree is dipped in the ganga jal. Banana tree is clad with a new saree . Saree is clad to a banana tree so that it looks like just a new married woman. Once this ritual is done then the banana tree is keep beside the Ma Durga idol.
- On this day nine plants are tied toghether. These 9 plants are considered as 9 form of Ma Durga. People also offer Aarit to Ma Durga and recite prayers to Goddess Durga.
- On Maha Saptami people also keep fast from sunrise till sunset. People should bath with ganga jal. On this day Lord Ganesha is worshipped

This year Durga Puja Saptami is on Saturday 20th October 2023. On Saturday most of the people have holiday. So its ideal day for celebrating Durga Saptami and worshipping Ma Durga and Ma Shakti.
Worshiping Ma Kalaratri on Durga Puja Saptami
On Durga Puja Saptami Ma Kalaratri is worshipped. Ma Kalaratri is 7th form of Ma Durga. Ma Durga has 9 forms and Ma Kalaratri is one of her forms and worshipped on 7th day. She is one of the most powerful forms of Goddess Durga and is also knows as Ma Shakti.
The meaning of Kalaratri is auspicious and scared. She is the remover of all evils , bad energy and negativity around us. Worshipping her makes the devotees auspicious and all the evils and bad energy is removed from devotees life.
