What is Durga Puja Ashtami ?

Durga Puja Ashtami is the second day of Durga Puja celebration. The first day of Durga Puja celebration is Durga Puja Saptami. Durga Puja Ashtami is very auspicious day of Durga Puja and people celebrate it with very much enthusiasam.

Significance of Durga Ashtami

On Durga Puja Ashtami  Ma Durga is worshipped. Ma Durga has nine forms or we call as avatar. Ashtami is worshipped in order to invoke 9 forms of Ma Durga. On this day all 9 forms of Ma Durga is worshipped. There are 8 pots are kept and in those all the forms of Ma Durga is invoked.

Kumari Puja on Durga Ashtami

Kumari Puja in literal sense means worshipping young girls. Young girls are considered as forms of Ma Durga. People worship young girls and is considered auspicious. This ritual is done by everyone who Worships Ma Durga during Dushera. After worshipping young girls , Prasadam is distributed amongst people. This ritual is very scared and shows how Hindu culture worships girl and respects them.

Ashtami Pushpanjali Timing is spread across 2 days. i.e 21st and 22nd October. So Ashtami Pushpanjali will be done in the morning of 22nd October. Pushpanjali should be done in the morning time and afternoon, evening, night time should be avoided. Morning time is the brahamamuhurat which brings blessings from the Gods if we pray in the morning.

What is Durga Puja Pushpanjali Meaning?

Pushpanjali is done during Durga Puja Ashtami , Navami. Pushpanjali is a combination of two words

Pushp + Anjali. Pushp meaning flowers and Anjali meaning to offer. During Durga Puja Ashtami we do pushpanjali to Ma Durga meaning we offer flowers to Ma Durga. This is a very sacred ritual and we should all perform it .

How to perform Durga Puja Ashtami at home?

1. Wake up early in the morning , clean the house and take a bath.
2. Ashtami Puja is done during the day time.
3. It is ideal that ladies and men of the house should take bath early in the morning.
4. After that food is prepared which is ideally a Satvik food without onion and garli.
5. You can prepare poori Halwa and some chana.
6. Then you need to offer the prasad to Ma durga which is 8 Poori and halwa. This is also called Athavari.
7. Then Ma Durga is worshipped.
8. After that On Durga Puja Ashtami 9 young girls are worshipped.
9. There are seated on the ground in a straight line facing you.
10. There feet are washed with water.
11. Then you need to put some teeka or bindi on there forehead.
12. Then arti is done to worship the young girls.
13. You need to take blessings from Ma Durga which is form of 9 young girls.
14. After the young girls are worshipped they are fed with Prasadam or early lunch.
15. You need to show your devotion , love and care to the young girls as they are considered form of Ma Durga.

How to perform Durga Puja Ashtami at Durga Mandir?

1. In every city of India or village there is a durga ma mandir.
2. Wake up early in the morning and take a bath.
3. Wear clean clothes and visit a nearby temple
4. Make sure you dont eat anything before the pushpanjali
5. You need offer  Pushpanjali at the mandir.
6. You need to go early in morning as the tithi may end so make sure you visit the mandir in morning.
7. The priest in the temple will say the mantra and you need to repeat the mantra and offer pushpanjali.
8. Take the prasadam from the mandir and then you can go back to your home.

What to wear on Durga Puja Ashtami?

1. Durga Puja Ashtami is a very auspicious day so you need to make sure dont wear any negative color like Black.
2. You can wear a white Kurta Paijama.
3. You can wear a Yellow Kurtia followed by a white Paijama
4. You can also wear a nice shirt or tshirt which is red, yellow, blue or green color with a pair of jeans.
5. You should wear some light color clothers like white, yellow, blue, green , red color.
6. You can wear variations of these color.
7. For Women , they can wear Sarees which are of green, yellow, red ,color and the variations of these color.
8. Women should avoid wearing black on this day.
